Function and Art. This material for this bowl was selected specifically for the highly figured, densely grained, nature of the maple, with the intention to put as much visual texture as possible into a perfectly smooth surface. And, it worked beautifully! Depending on the direction of the light hitting the outer, or inner surfaces of this little bowl, there are dips and waves going multiple directions. The pictures cannot capture the effect properly, but hopefully will give you an idea of the effects achieved in this piece.
Finished with jojoba oil/beeswax, it is food safe, though I expect this little bowl will most often be used as a visual piece. About 4” in diameter, and 3” tall.
